Etiquette

Taekwondo is a long and difficult learning process. If it is to be both taught and learnt seriously, all students must respect their place of practise, The Dojang.

Below are the basic rules and accepted behaviour of the Dojang. These rules apply to not only beginners but the instructor and higher grades especially must observe these rules. The Dojang is a place where we perfect ourselves. It should be a served and solemn place.

Remember to

Bow upon entering and leaving the Dojang.

Bow to the instructor as they enter the Dojang (students must not be late for training, if however circumstances arise where the lesson has already started, students must stand and wait at the back of the Dojang until the instructor gives them permission to join the lesson).

No food, drink or chewing gum is allowed inside the Dojang.

No jewellery, wrist bands, rings or glasses are allowed whilst training unless the instructors permission has been given.

The Taekwondo dobok must always be clean and worn correctly with belt. students must also ensure they have clean hands and feet.

Never interrupt your instructor and bow before and after speaking with them.

Always keep the Dojang clean and tidy never just leave it to the instructor.

Where possible inform the instructor of absence from training.

Respect at all times the instructor and fellow students regardless of age and sex.

When passing items to your instructor or higher grades always carry out the correct bow.

Do not demand or expect respect from anyone. You will always earn respect and admiration from your correct actions. Black belts must always lead by example so that the lower grades can copy and learn correctly.
